About Black Bobby

Black Bobby is a rebel. Raised by a Black Nationalist mom. Groomed and educated by his dad- a lawyer trained in the Jag Corps. Bobby was raised on that DC area culture. He loves Go-Go music and Mambo Sauce. He thinks you are a bamma for wearing that. Kidding! After leaving DC, Bobby went on to attend Tufts University where he was active in many campus orgs and eventually became the school’s president. Pretty good for a jock with bad knees? After college, Bobby and a band of able idealists launched a national nonprofit dedicated to reforming politics by training courageous kids to run for public office. United Leaders- the org- operated in Boston, DC, and SF before closing in 2005. Bobby left UL to finish his Masters in Public Policy at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. After school he worked in management/strategy consulting at an elite firm in Cambridge- kinda like John Legend. Then he quit to write rhymes and preserve this Hip-Hop culture. Been on a mission ever since. Oh, and he organized on the Obama Campaign. Bob love tha kids.

You can find him in Miami. Bobby dropped his first mixtape ever in Miami with the support of Indie music pros like the owners of Sweat Records. The tape- Phat Kid Tendencies- has now been downloaded 814 times in 6 months. He does shows all over Miami- at Love/Hate, White Room, Art Basel for Miami Independent Thinkers, Vagabond, Churchill’s, SWEATSTOCK, etc. He has shared a stage with many of Miami’s top acts such as Mayday and Garcia and has opened for Hip-Hop legends AZ, Cormega, and N.O.R.E. Pretty decent for a guy that has only been writing music for four years and got his start at open mics in Ft. Lauderdale. Bobby wants to serve as a leader for the Millennial Generation and utilizes his background, education, talent, and vision to provide a platform for idealistic leadership in the entertainment industry. He is an Indie rapper and runs his own record label- SQUARE BIZ Entertainment. SQUARE BIZ consists of Bobby, DJ D-Up, the rapper Teagus Mayne, his photographer Jesse Meadows, our booking manager Cheynne Hoadley, and our promotions team I-95. His next mixtape- Black Bobby’s Negro Dialect- drops on June 17th in coordination with Black Bobby’s Block Party (a monthly, rotating live music party), which will be hosted at Sweat Records. Thank you for your support. Enjoy the music.

We met at a Harvard function. I just listened to a sampling of your music. Good stuff! I want to stay on your mailing list to check you out around town. Later.
